It is important to know and understand how the Gup testing process works.

Testing is held at once a quarter, date to be determined by the Head Instructor. If you cannot make the scheduled testing date, talk to the Head Instructor about the options you have. Testing dates may be subject to cancellation.

  1. All Gup students must complete a PRE-TEST prior to the testing date.
  2. All pre-testing must be completed within 2 months of the starting date.
  3. Pretesting for Dan ranks must be completed with Master Kang.
  4. Schedule adequate time to complete pre-testing. The more senior the belt, the more time you will need. Last-minute pre-testing marathons "the night before" will not be allowed.
  5. There are two types of technique evaluations available during the pre-testing "check testing" and "pre-testing":
    You may "check" a technique with a senior as many times as you like, during which comments and suggestions for improvement can be made. "Checking" a technique is not mandatory, but HIGHLY recommended.
    You may "pre-test" a technique only twice. Failure to receive a passing grade both times will result in negation of all previous pre-testing grades, and the pre-testing process must begin again.
  6. You may NOT "pre-test" a technique the same day you "check" the technique.
  7. All students MUST have the recommendation and approval of the senior(s) who pre-tested them to request admittance to a test.
  8. All students wishing to test MUST present a copy of their completed pretesting papers, which have been signed and approved by the recommending senior(s), at the time of the test. This is your permission to REQUEST admittance to test, NOT a guarantee that you may test. You will not be admitted to the test without the completed and signed pre-testing sheet.
  9. All testing applicants are subject to approval by the senior instructor.
  10. All testing fees must be paid in full at the time of the Gup test.

13th to 11th Gup (1st White to 2nd White) $ 25
11th to 9th Gup (2nd White to 1st Yellow) $ 35
 9th to  7th Gup (1st Yellow to 2nd Yellow) $ 35
7th to  6th Gup (2nd Yellow to 1st Green) $ 45
 6th to  5th Gup (1st Green to 2nd Green) $ 45
 5th to  4th Gup (2nd Green to 3rd Green $ 45
 4th to  3rd Gup (3rd Green to 1st Red) $ 55
 3rd to  2nd Gup (1st Red to 2nd Red) $ 55
 2nd to 1st Gup (2nd Red to Purple) $100

Following the completion of a testing, all testing results are subject to approval by the senior instructor.
