Rank Requirements

The
Gup requirements were carefully
considered and developed by Master Kang,
the head of the Moo Duk Kwan system in the U.S., for your learning
benefit, personal development, and also for your safety. As
such, all students should avoid the pitfall of seeking out and practicing
techniques that are well outside of the requirements for their Gup rank.
Not only does this pull your attention away from the things you are
responsible for, but it endangers your safety
and the safety of others by increasing the chance of injury because of unfamiliarity
with the technique, unsupervised practice, etc. If
you have any questions about what the requirements for your Gup rank are,
ask the senior instructor. Here
are some general rules that may help you understand what you should expect
from your training and your instructors: In
general, techniques for one rank above the student's current rank
may be introduced and practiced.
Exceptions to this rule include all green-belt sparring
techniques (i.e., sparring patterns, one-step sparring, free-sparring
[Judo or Tae Kwon Do]), and weapons forms.
These techniques and drills are for practice exclusively
by green-belt and higher seniors. No
free-sparring of any kind (Judo or Tae Kwon Do) for ranks under
green belt. All-free
sparring must be conducted under Black Belt supervision
All
weapons practice is reserved for senior gup ranks.
Yellow belts may begin learning the basics of movement
and striking only under the direction and supervision of a Black
Belt. Forms practice
is reserved for green belt and above under the supervision of
a Black Belt. All
students under the age of 16 must get 1st Gup or Black
Belt permission before using any training equipment.
White
and yellow belt students above the age of 16 should seek
Black Belt guidance prior to using training equipment. |
